Kayak training runs on Tuesday evenings

There are a group of us planning some training runs at Twin Lakes on Tuesday nights starting on the 10th. Everbody is welcome to come out, just show up at the upper boat launch at 5:30. If you have questions or need directions feel free to call me at 208-687-5765.

Practice riding the course ?

I'm getting the question virtually every day, " Hey how do I get access to the bike course? " Well it's complicated. You can access the public portions of the course, which happen to be the most challenging sections. Here's how: Start at Rathdrum's city park. Ride 4/10 of a mile to Hidden Valley road, take a right. Follow Hidden Valley to Nelson Loop that's a 2.9 mile ride. Stay straight on Nelson Loop for 2 more miles. That will get you to Inland Empire's gate on what they call the M-18. Inland Empire very graciously allows us to use the M-18 on race day but if you wish to access it prior you will need to buy a permit from them. You can get one at a variety of locations. Practice paddle run/// Where to put in.

The best place to put in is the last boat launch on Upper Twin lake. There is a nice sandy beach and usually plenty of parking. From Rathdrum go North on Highway 41 to Twin Lakes road. That's about a half a mile further than the Twins Lakes Village golf corse. Take a left and go about 4 miles its the second launch you will see. This is the actual transition point from Bike to Boat. I would suggest paddling from the launch to right or Northwest end of the lake turn around and paddle back past the launch to the opposite end of the lake go through the channel to the lower lake and keep paddling to the end that's pretty much the course.

I went out over the weekend and paddled the course again. This was my second run at the new paddle leg. A couple of weeks ago I went out and GPS'ed for buoy placement ( we don't want anybody off couse). That run took me 68 minutes with four stops to mark waypoints. This past weekend I ran it a little harder and shaved it down by 7 minutes.
